Good evening Parents and Students,

I hope this finds everyone well. I have been released to come back to work tomorrow and will make the most of the day. I’m so sorry, but I must be out again, for medical reasons, Wednesday and Thursday. I am very hopeful that things will get better soon. I am truly grateful to have a co-teacher like Dr. Obi. She has not missed a beat in my absence, as she is not only certified, but just as knowledgeable about the 6th grade Math content as I am. An 8th grade teacher has come in to make sure my 1st period has not gotten behind. Below you will find the agenda for this week. We did have to push the test to next week, so the students should be extra prepared.

Tuesday:

Review 5th grade standards of simplifying fractions (also the same as creating equivalent fractions) and converting mixed numbers to improper fractions-this was moved from last week.

Dividing fractions by fractions (algorithm and models mixed) guided and independent practice.

Study Guide for unit test coming home AND graded homework on dividing fractions as well. HW due Friday September 6. Please have them working on the study guide each night so they are practicing for the Unit test.

Wednesday:

Dividing fractions and mixed numbers (algorithm and models mixed)-real world application CLASSWORK

Thursday:

Students receive Unit 1 extended Performance task. This covers all topics in Unit 1. We will start it in class Thursday and students will be able to work on parts of it in class other days as they are done with any classwork/practice.  They should also be working on it at home. DUE DATE: Thursday, September 12. It counts as a test grade.

Friday:

County issued Mini-Touchstone (quiz)

Work on Performance Task in class

Looking ahead:

-Unit 1 test Monday September 9 or Tuesday September 2 (be prepared for Monday)

-Start Unit 2 Ratios and Proportional Relationships

-Understanding ratios and how to write them (to include equivalent ratios in tables).

-Finding rates and unit rates/prices (lots of opportunity for your child to do this as you shop).

As always, thank you for your support-we are expecting great things no matter what!

Ms. Angela Broussard and Dr. Agy Obi
