If you don’t like something change it. If you can’t change it, then change your attitude!

Maya Angelou

I left this quote, because I truly had to learn to live by this the past couple of years.

  • I will NOT be available for the 10:30-12:00 help session Wednesday, May 13. Students can email me if they had a question, however. I will respond later that day.

This week’s focus has three review standards, but the assignments are short as always 😊. The Equations and Expressions domain (category) counts as one of highest counting percentages in grades 6-8. This unit includes this like order of operations, use of exponents, writing expressions from word problems, solving equations algebraically (not mentally). Equations will become more complex each year.  If students use the algebraic method, we have taught, instead of just trying to do it mentally, they will always find success in adapting to more challenging equations! PLEEEEEEASE do not just use mental math because it seems easier-we are preparing you from something harder later.

For 6th grade number sense is equally as important (like what we have been working on during quarantine from Unit 7 AND unit 1 with fractions, multiplying and dividing etc). If you are interested in what to practice during the summer find the page that shows your progress in general-wherever you see yellow and pink dots that’s what still needs practicing.

USA Testprep assignments come from the following:

MGSE.EE.1 Write/Evaluate Numerical Expressions-Random questions (order of operations)

MGSE.EE.4 Identifying equivalent expressions-performance task (5 questions).

MGSE.EE.7 Solving equations- Random Questions

Review videos to watch before attempting USA Testprep:

EE.1 Order of operations-this is a really detailed one explaining “why” we have order. I would start at the 2 minute mark if you don’t care “why”. https://mathantics.com/lesson/order-of-operations

EE.7 Explains the ALGEBRAIC method of solving equations and why we use it (adding and subtracting) https://mathantics.com/lesson/solving-basic-equations-1

EE.7 Explains the ALGEBRAIC method for multiplying and dividing https://mathantics.com/lesson/solving-basic-equations-2

EE.4 Combining like terms Review (for your performance task

(Students probably won’t know who Chuck Norris is, but just stay with the video because he switches to algebraic examples, lol)
