Week of Nov 26-30

Unit 3 test has been moved to Tuesday, December 4.

All students present on Friday November 16 received a bright pink practice page to help review concepts from this unit.  It is due by November 27. They were reminded in class today.

Those students absent November 16 were given a copy today if they asked for it. Their work is due by Thursday Nov 29 in order to get corrections before the weekend

*Items on the test include:

   -solving with exponents

   -order of operations

-evaluating an expression when given a value to substitute for the variable. 2x + 3; when x = 5

-translating from verbal phrases to an algebraic expression

   -combining like terms (3b + 3y - b + 2y + 12  can be simplified to 2b +5y + 12)

-using properties of operations (distributive mainly, but also commutative and associative) to write equivalent             expressions

-percent problems from Unit 2 (only 3 as a spiral review)

Mon-Weds EE3; Combining like terms and factoring expressions to create equivalent ones.

Thursday-Friday EE4; Using properties of operations: Students were asked to watch videos on the following properties over Thanksgiving break as they will not be covered in detail this week:

Distributive, commutative, and associative (the last two are reviewed from elementary school).

Homework will be given nightly as part of needed review, but only one assignment will be collected for a formal grade.

If students doesn't do even the ungraded practice their grades on classwork, quizzes, and tests are greatly affected.

-Ask your child what was covered each day and ask to see the notes or practice they did in class.

-Graded homework will be due by Fri.

-They can also work on their USAtestprep assignment.

The first USA test prep assignment will be available for all students starting Nov 27. They must complete the assignment on expressions by December 5th. Login instructions are found under the helpful math websites tab.
